McCarthy International Glaciological Summer School 2018

In June we organized the 5th International Summer Glaciological Summer School in McCarthy, Alaska. This biannual event has become my favorite teaching activity. We spend ten days in the remote and quirky town of McCarthy, Alaska, one of only two road access points to the biggest National Park in the US, Wrangell-St.Elias. While we spent a lot of time in lectures, exercises, and class projects, we also get an opportunity to hike across the local glacier and explore the glacier forelands. For quite a few of the students this was their first time on an actual glacier.
